I made this flower wreath with my little one because she loves painting, cutting, and creating simple handmade decorations. It is a great project for children because the steps are easy to follow, the materials are inexpensive, and the result is something they can proudly display. Younger children may need help with cutting and hot glue, but they can still enjoy painting the tubes, arranging the petals, and choosing the colors.

This paper flower wreath is simple, pretty, and inexpensive. It does not take long to make, and because the flowers are made from cardboard tubes, the finished wreath can last for a long time when stored carefully. It is a wonderful recycled craft idea for families, classrooms, summer break activities, or anyone who enjoys making decorative pieces from everyday materials.

DIY Paper flower wreath

To make this DIY paper flower wreath, you will create several paper flowers from toilet paper tubes, then attach them to a wreath form wrapped in burlap. The burlap adds texture and gives the wreath a rustic look, while the painted paper flowers bring in color and charm. You can make the flowers all the same size or vary the petal widths for a fuller, more natural design.

Materials:

  • Toilet paper tubes; I used 5
  • Paint
  • Paintbrush
  • Scissors
  • Ruler
  • Toilet paper
  • Burlap
  • Polystyrene or a Styrofoam circle
  • Glue gun
  • Hot glue sticks
  • Glue

Directions:

  • Gather your toilet paper tubes and prepare them for the flowers. Flatten each tube gently, then use a ruler to mark strips for the petals. Cut the tube into rings. You can make the strips different widths if you want some petals to look larger and others smaller.
  • Paint the cardboard pieces in your chosen colors and allow them to dry completely. Once dry, shape the pieces into petals and glue them together to form flowers. Make as many blooms as you need to cover the wreath base.
  • If you are using polystyrene to make your wreath circle, place a large bowl or plate on the polystyrene and cut around it carefully with a cutter. Then place a medium bowl in the center of the circle and cut around it to create the wreath opening.

  • Take your burlap fabric and fold it into a long strip. Depending on the size of your wreath base and the length of your burlap, you may need more than one strip to cover the entire circle.

  • Pin one end of the burlap strip to the back of the polystyrene circle. Start wrapping the burlap around the wreath base, keeping the fabric smooth and slightly overlapping as you go. When the base is covered, secure the end at the back with another pin.

  • Arrange the paper flowers on the wreath before gluing them down. This helps you decide where each bloom looks best. Once you are happy with the layout, use hot glue to attach the flowers to the burlap-covered wreath base.
  • Let the glue set completely before hanging or displaying your wreath. Your handmade paper flower wreath is now ready to enjoy.
