Egg-Free Tiramisu — a classic Italian chilled dessert reimagined without raw eggs. This easy, make-ahead treat layers a light, whipped cream-cheese filling over coffee- and liqueur-soaked ladyfingers, finished with a dusting of cocoa and grated chocolate. It’s creamy, indulgent, and ideal for gatherings or a simple weekend dessert.

This egg-free version delivers the familiar flavors of traditional tiramisu—rich coffee, a splash of coffee liqueur if you like, and a silky cream layer—without the need for raw or cooked eggs. The recipe is straightforward, quick to assemble, and improves after resting in the refrigerator, which makes it perfect for entertaining because most of the work can be done ahead.
The soft texture of the soaked ladyfingers combined with the sweet, tangy cream-cheese filling creates a luxurious mouthfeel. The coffee and chocolate notes balance the sweetness, making each bite unmistakably tiramisu.

You will need
A 12 in × 8 in (30 × 20 cm) dish or something similar in size
Ingredients
8 oz (225 g) cream cheese, at room temperature
1 cup (240 ml) heavy cream (whipping cream)
½ cup (100 g) granulated sugar
About 2 packets of ladyfingers (enough to line the dish)
3 tbsp instant espresso or strong coffee powder
3 tbsp Kahlúa or Tia Maria (coffee liqueur) — optional
Cocoa powder for dusting
Grated chocolate for garnish
Instructions
- Prepare the coffee mixture: dissolve 3 tablespoons of instant espresso or coffee powder in 3 tablespoons of boiling water. Add 1½ cups (360 ml) cold water to cool it down and stir in the liqueur if using. Set aside to cool completely.
- Make the cream-cheese filling: in a medium bowl, beat the room-temperature cream cheese and sugar together until the mixture is smooth and slightly fluffy.
- In a separate chilled bowl, whip the heavy cream to medium-stiff peaks. Gently fold the whipped cream into the cream-cheese mixture until combined and airy. Take care not to overbeat.
- Assemble the tiramisu: quickly dip each ladyfinger into the cooled coffee mixture—do this briefly so they absorb some liquid but don’t become soggy. Arrange a single layer of soaked ladyfingers across the bottom of your 12 × 8-inch dish.
- Spread half of the cream-cheese mixture evenly over the first layer of ladyfingers. Add another layer of soaked ladyfingers and finish with the remaining cream-cheese mixture, smoothing the top.
- Cover the dish with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 6 hours, preferably overnight. Chilling allows the flavors to meld and the texture to set.
- Before serving, dust the top liberally with cocoa powder and sprinkle with grated chocolate for texture and additional chocolate flavor.
This tiramisu is best when made ahead. Refrigeration enhances the flavor and helps the layers hold together when sliced. For a non-alcoholic version, omit the liqueur and add a splash of vanilla extract or an extra tablespoon of espresso to the coffee mixture for depth.

Tips and Variations
- Use good-quality instant espresso or freshly brewed strong coffee for the best flavor.
- If you prefer a lighter filling, substitute part of the cream cheese with mascarpone or add a little extra whipped cream.
- For fruit-forward variations, try layering thin slices of banana or berries between the cake layers before chilling.
- To make individual servings, assemble the dessert in glasses or small ramekins—adjust the ingredient quantities as needed.
